MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Beverly Daigle has her dream job it seems. Sure, she’s been a regular teacher in a regular classroom—but now all of Old Shell Magnet School gets her attention at some point. She’s a reading specialist who swoops in when things get a little hard for some students.

Daigle said, “So I am the ARI, and ARI stands for Alabama Reading Initiative—local reading specialist—and that’s funded through the Alabama literacy law. So I work with kindergarten through third-grade students and teachers to meet their needs and monitor their progress.”

And you can bet she’s got some success stories.  One of those is a former student—Memory Wilson.  She and her mother nominated Ms Daigle for the Golden Apple. Memory’s mother says while Memory was struggling as a student—Ms Daigle put in extra time and effort to turn things around.

“It’s amazing—and her mom tries to keep in touch with me and they came to visit me one day in the spring but it was a day I was off campus for professional development,” said Daigle. “But they had brought me a teacher appreciation bundt cake and the mom was not upset at all about missing me but emailed me and told me she’d given Memory the opportunity to get as many as she wanted for teachers and she didn’t want to do any for teachers at her present school—just me, so…”

Our congratulations to 30-year teaching veteran Beverly Daigle and Old Shell Magnet School for a job well done.
