MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s “101 Days of Summer Safety” ended with six traffic fatalities across the state over Labor Day weekend.

An ALEA news release said between midnight Friday and midnight on Monday, the six deadly crashes happened in Cleburne, Chilton and Mobile Counties. Saturday was the only day with no traffic fatalities.

On top of the six deadly crashes, troopers also investigated 185 crashes resulting in 101 injuries, made 29 DUI arrests, issued 227 tickets for seatbelts, 1,688 tickets for speeding, 15 tickets for reckless driving and one drowning.

ALEA’s safety initiative began on Memorial Day weekend and ended this past weekend. According to officials, the summer months are often called the “100 deadliest days of summer,” due to families traveling and teenagers driving for the first time.

The ALEA news release said as of Sept. 1, 2024, the agency saw 32 fewer traffic fatalities compared to the same time last year.
