    How grant funding will help these 4 Gulf Coast schools

    MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Four Gulf Coast schools will soon be able to add health and wellness resources for students as the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama’s Be Healthy School Grant Program is awarding over $318,000 in grants to 36 schools across the state.

    According to a BCBS press release, the grants are for schools to implement school-based health and wellness programs like new physical education equipment, school gardens, and adaptive playground equipment.

    The four local schools receiving funding are Barton Academy for Advanced World Studies, J.E. Turner Elementary, Semmes Middle School, and Jackson Academy. Each of those schools is receiving a grant of up to $10,000, according to the release.

    BCBS said over 17,000 students will benefit from the program.
