DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The family of a woman shot to death on Dauphin Island in early August has set a $2,000 reward to whoever finds the handgun.

“There is a weapon in the area of Dauphin Island,” Matthew Majewski, brother of Casey Fulford, said. “It would give our family maybe some more closure.”

According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s office, Fulford was shot to death in her home on Chenault Avenue on Dauphin Island .

“We want all of the information,” Majewski said.

Investigators arrested Fulford’s ex-boyfriend of nine years, Jereme Lewis. He is charged with murder.

“We loved her, so if she brought someone into the family, we opened our arms to them, and this isn’t something that we could’ve thought would’ve ever happened,” Majewski said.

Majewski told News 5 that they broke up only a few days before the shooting.

According to officials, they’ve been called to the home several times before for domestic violence.

“I can just see the potential in her,” Majewski said, “The years that she had left and to take that away from somebody with so much potential is absurd to me.”

Fulford was a conservationist on Dauphin Island and extremely passionate about her work. Her brother described her as having a fun competitive spirit that he admired.

He urged anyone who is in a volatile relationship to speak up.

“You don’t know where things could go, you need to be careful, tread lightly but don’t be afraid to be vocal and ask for help,” Majewski said.

Majewski asked anyone who finds a handgun to contact the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

Lewis’s preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 26.
