    2 injured in crash on Dolly Parton Bridge

    UPDATE (12:10 p.m.): News 5 has received more information about a crash that closed the southbound lanes on Interstate 65, near the General W.K. Wilson Jr. Bridge, for several hours.

    According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, two people were injured in the crash that happened around 2:18 a.m. on Interstate 65 near the 30-mile marker.

    The General W.K. Wilson Jr. Bridge is also called the Dolly Parton Bridge.

    INCIDENT LOCATION:

    Officials said the crash involved two commercial vehicles: a 2017 Volvo tractor-trailer and a 2018 Mack tractor-trailer. The 2017 Volvo tractor-trailer struck the 2018 Mack tractor-trailer, according to ALEA.

    Both drivers were injured in the crash.

    ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is continuing to investigate the crash.

    BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating a two-vehicle crash at the General W.K. Wilson Jr. Bridge Thursday morning that caused the southbound lanes to be closed for several hours.

    The General W.K. Wilson Jr. Bridge, also known as the Dolly Parton Bridge, has its southbound lanes on I-65 near mile marker 30 closed due to a two-commercial vehicle crash at 2:18 a.m., according to a press release from ALEA.

    The lanes were closed for several more hours while the vehicles were recovered and towed away.

    During the accident, law enforcement diverted drivers to exits 31 & 34. The remaining traffic was detoured to Alabama State Route 225 from 6:45 to 8:15 a.m.

    The scene was cleared six hours after the crash occurred.

    There is no word on injuries or what caused the crash.
