MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — An inmate is facing a possible murder charge after an incident that happened behind bars, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.

MCSO officials said the incident happened on Aug. 20 around 1:38 p.m. and involved two inmates: 59-year-old Harry McClure and 44-year-old Justin Miles.

According to an MCSO press release, Miles assaulted McClure. Officials said jail video surveillance showed McClure lying on his mat, and Miles kicking and stomping on his head in what appeared to have been an unprovoked attack.

Following the incident, officials said McClure was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with multiple intracranial hemorrhages and was placed on life support. McClure’s family removed him from life support on Sept. 8, according to the release.

MCSO said in the release, “At this time, McClure is still alive but not expected to survive.”

Officials said Miles has been charged with second-degree assault, but he will be charged with murder if McClure dies from his injuries.
