According to a Crestview news release, Crestview dispatch received a 911 call from the boy’s father on Aug. 22 around 9 p.m.

The caller reportedly said his son was not breathing and was foaming at the mouth. He told dispatch he was heading to North Okaloosa Medical Center.

The father updated dispatch when he reached the intersection of Highway 85 and PJ Adams Parkway, News 5 has learned.

Crestview Police Cpl. Kristy Peters located the father and saw the infant’s lips were blue, which meant he was not getting enough oxygen.

Peters then administered back blows, which dislodged the vomit the baby was choking on, and the baby was able to begin breathing.

When emergency medical services arrived, the infant’s color returned to normal, and the boy was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center.

“I chose to work for the Crestview Police Department for their apparent dedication to
constant improvement; starting from the caliber of people they elect to hire,” Peters said. “This dedication continues to be benchmarked in their training department, which provided me with additional skills and the confidence needed to perform my duties.

“This incident is a refreshing reminder of the positive outcomes seldomly reflected in today’s media. More importantly, I want this to be a reminder to the public of the importance of having these basic lifesaving skills as part of their repertoire.”
