    Escambia County grand jury indicts man on 3 counts of first degree premeditated murder with a firearm

    ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — An Escambia County grand jury indicted a man on three counts of first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm, according to the First Judicial Court State Attorney.

    According to a news release from State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden’s office, 23-year-old Torrance Lamar Sumler was indicted for the shooting deaths of Markeese Turner, Michael Carstarphen Jr., and Trashaun Powers.

    The three men were killed on April 28 on West Jackson Street.

    According to the news release, the murders are charged under Florida’s Criminal Gang Prevention Act and Florida’s 10-20-LIFE statute. If convicted of first-degree murder, Sumler will receive a mandatory life sentence.

    Sumler will be arraigned on Sept. 13. He is currently being held in the Escambia County Jail with no bond.

    The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation. Assistant State Attorney Amy Shea is prosecuting the case on behalf of First Judicial Court State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden.

    Even if people can't understand that killing someone is a despicable act, they should be able to understand, in self-interest, that if they take someone's life, it end their own life. When they kill someone else, they are usually killing themselves or, at least, their freedom. I don't understand why they think they can kill someone and not suffer very serious consequences. This is not a moral argument I'm making, it's a practical, self-preservation argument.
