United Cerebral Palsy of Mobile schedules fundraiser to continue programs for disabled people

MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — United Cerebral Palsy of Mobile aims to help disabled kids and adults live without limits through their programs.

Wayne Dean and Jennifer Cooley with UPC of Mobile joined WKRG News 5’s Shamonee Baker and Bill Riales on the Red Couch to discuss those programs and what goes into making them a reality.

According to Cooley, Camp Smile is one of the most well-known programs at the organization.

“It is everything you think of when you think of summer camp but for kids and adults with disabilities,” Cooley said. “It’s sleepaway camp. They do all the things — swimming, horseback riding, arts and crafts — every bit of it.”

Although the camp is described as being a ton of fun and a great opportunity, organizers said they need help to make it a reality.

That help is coming through the organization’s Food & Folly signature fundraising event. For more information on the event scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Fort Whiting Auditorium, watch the full interview in the video player above .
