BREWTON, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Coastal Alabama Community College administration is spending over $3.2 million to improve the Brewton campus.

The school’s most comprehensive capital improvement project in over 10 years includes nine roof replacements, structural repairs, new bleachers, a new press box and restroom building at the baseball stadium, and all new furnishings in the residence hall.

“The Chancellor of the Alabama Community College System Mr. Jimmy Baker has emphasized the mission is for us to serve our local communities,” Brewton Campus Director Dennis Fuqua said. “Dr. Milner and Coastal Alabama’s administration have followed through on that, giving us the resources necessary to be an even greater partner in this community and beyond.”

The first phase, according to a press release from the school, is replacing the roofs of seven buildings. Those buildings include Hines Hall, Leigh Library, and the Wallace Administration Building.

The improvements also include delivering new furniture at Lakeview Apartments, which is the campus’ residence hall, housing about 100 students a semester. The furniture, which costs about $900,000, will be installed during the holiday break.

About $1.1 million is going toward renovating the baseball stadium. This includes demolishing the out-of-date bleachers and press box. They’ll be replaced by a new press box and aluminum bleachers, which will be able to hold 230 spectators. A new concession stand, men’s and women’s restrooms, and a changing room for umpires will also be part of the renovation.

There will be surrounding areas available for spectators who want to bring their own chairs.

The baseball stadium renovations should conclude in early spring 2025, ahead of the baseball team’s season to defend its 2024 Division II Alabama Community College Conference State Championship.

“We already field an elite team, and this season we expect to do more of the same, with better facilities for those who enjoy watching them play,” Fuqua said.
