MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Some women in the Mobile area will not have to travel as far to attend certain doctor appointments as Dr. Donna Bennett and Dr. Sharon Bush-Coaxum opened a new OB-GYN office earlier this month.

The two doctors joined News 5’s Shamonee Baker and Bill Riales on the Red Couch to discuss why they opened the new practice.

“I felt the need to come back to my community to close the gap and disparity in women’s health care that I saw not just here in Mobile but all over,” Dr. Bush-Coaxum explained. “I wanted to come back and have a helping hand in improving health care for women.”

“I think it is important the community sees sometimes people who look like them, and I think they are going to feel more comfortable opening up and discussing their concerns and fears,” Dr. Bennett added. “I think we are going to make that difference for not just Black women but many people in our community.”

For more information on the practice, which is open at 171 Mobile Infirmary Blvd., watch the full interview in the video player above.
