SPANISH FORT, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Spanish Fort has new infrastructure coming to the city.

The city is 31 years old and has never had a public works facility. Spanish Fort officials plan to build a new fire station for Spanish Fort Fire Rescue. It will be used as the city’s main fire station and to house the city’s administrative offices.

The city will use the current fire station for the city’s public works facility.

Spanish Fort Mayor Michael M. McMillan shared with WKRG News 5 that these plans will grow the city economically. He also said that around a dozen additional city projects are currently in the works.

“So when you’re investigating in the community, whether it’s with schools, whether it’s with parks, whether it’s with first responders, you’re growing the economy of a city, so you’re taking care of the need and you’re enhancing everything you’ve got,” McMillan said.

The city has also requested funds for a master plan for Fire Station No. 4, which will be transformed into its training center.

McMillan said the city’s operating budget was approved last night, which will help fund some of these projects.
