OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — The body of Jeremy Carmical, a 30-year-old scuba diver who went missing Sunday off the coast of Destin, has been found.

The United Cajun Navy led the search effort after the Coast Guard called off their search Monday night. Captain Tony Dickey of the UCN confirmed the discovery.

Carmical disappeared after a dive southwest of Destin’s East Pass. The other people on his vessel said he went missing “in the blink of an eye.” They searched for hours before reaching out to authorities for help.

16 vessels and volunteer divers worked together, performing surface and bottom grid searches. Planes and local volunteers, including beach walkers, assisted in the search, according to Dickey.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Coast Guard initially assisted, but the search was handed off to local efforts.

Captain Dickey said safety was a top priority during the search.

“It lasts until we bring him home,” Dickey said.

The UCN’s motto is “bringing home the lost.”
