    Pensacola woman injured, hospitalized after hit and run crash

    ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a driver fled the scene of a crash that sent one woman to the hospital Tuesday morning in Escambia County.

    According to an FHP press release, the crash happened at the intersection of Gulf Beach Highway and Atlanta Avenue around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and involved two vehicles: a Lexus SUV and a Nissan sedan.

    INCIDENT LOCATION:

    FHP said the Lexus SUV, driven by a 52-year-old Pensacola woman, was traveling westbound on Gulf Beach Highway, approaching the intersection of Atlanta Avenue when a Nissan sedan that was traveling eastbound turned left into the path of the Lexus.

    As a result, officials said the Nissan collided with the front of the Lexus. The Lexus was propelled northwest and collided with a utility pole and street sign while the Nissan was propelled into the woods along the southern shoulder of Gulf Beach Highway, according to reports.

    The driver of the Nissan fled the scene of the crash on foot, officials said. The driver of the Lexus was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

    Authorities said they are working to investigate the crash and find the driver of the Nissan.
