PRICHARD, Ala. ( WKRG ) — In a motion filed in court Monday, the Prichard Water Works and Sewer Board believes that a takeover by the Mobile Area Water Sewer System is not a viable option.

This comes after court-appointed receiver John Young Jr. believes a MAWSS takeover of PWWSB should help consolidate their debts and fix their leaky pipes.

In response, PWWSB filed a motion arguing the takeover would generate two outcomes.

The first outcome, PWWSB argued if MAWSS were to take over and combine the two, MAWSS and PWWSB customers would bear extra costs to pay for their debt.

The second outcome, PWWSB argued that their customers would pay all the costs if the two were to run as separate entities.

PWWSB member Cherry Doyle was unaware that the board had filed any motion because she said no one contacted her about this decision.

She said she is in full support of MAWSS taking over the PWWSB.

“Well, I think it’s an option; I don’t think it’s not an option,” she said. “I really think it’s the best option.”

In the motion, the board said they believe a concession agreement is the only viable option, and they are asking the court to order mediation in the case.
