ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Eight people are without a home after a Tuesday fire in a two-story quadplex, according to Escambia County Fire-Rescue.

An ECFR Facebook post said firefighters were called around 9:30 p.m. Sept. 24 for a report of a multi-residential structure fire on the 1700 block of East Johnson Avenue.

When officials arrived, they said they found the quadplex with heavy fire coming from the first floor and extending into the second floor.

Crews were able to ensure that no one was trapped inside the home before they deployed a defensive fire attack due to the fast-spreading fire.

The post said the building is likely a total loss. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

An accidental cooking fire was determined to be the cause.
