BUNKIE, La. ( WNTZ ) – On September 25, 2024, at approximately 7:07 a.m., the Avoyelles 911 Communication Center received a call from a female subject threatening to “shoot up” Bunkie High School (BHS). The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) Bunkie High School Resource Officer, APSO Deputies, and the Bunkie Police Department were immediately notified and responded to the school to protect the children and teachers. APSO, Bunkie PD, and a Bunkie City Ward Marshal responded to the scene. APSO coordinated with Bunkie PD, the Louisiana State Police, and the BHS Principal. The school was placed on lockdown.

The cooperative effort by APSO and Bunkie PD investigators quickly revealed that a 14-year-old juvenile student of Bunkie High School had made a prank call to the 911 Center using her cell phone. The student allegedly made the call from the school campus. The Bunkie Police Department subsequently arrested the juvenile for terrorizing, and she was released to her parents.

Sheriff David L. Dauzat would like to thank all of the law enforcement professionals who responded to Bunkie High School to ensure the safety of the children and teachers and for quickly determining that the call was not a credible threat.
