MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Joining us this morning is Justin Driver with Forward Church. We want to talk about a really heady and wide concept: Who is God?

Guest: Yeah, that’s a loaded statement. You know, even Paul teaches us that we cannot fully comprehend or fully fathom everything there is to know about God. I always said if we could fully comprehend God, what kind of God would he be? But at the same time, God does reveal himself and give us revelation so we can be in relationship with him.

Anchor: What do you think God is like? Is he angry like a lot of the Old Testament? Or is he a loving God? Or is it all of it?

Guest: Well, I think many people misinterpret because God’s love and God’s anger or wrath is displayed both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. So his love is displayed in the Old Testament, right? He’s not just a god of anger and wrath in the old, but he’s not just this God. God is love. But he also we see his full character displayed in both the old and the New Testament.

Anchor: How accurate is it when we sort of ascribe human emotions to God, the omnipotent being?

Guest: Well, God in his personhood displays certain emotions, right? But I think God is different because he doesn’t react to it based on emotions.

So God is holy and just in everything that he does, that’s his nature. This is his very character. And so we as humans respond in our emotions sometimes. But God doesn’t allow emotions to dictate

Anchor: How can we think of God? Is he an entity? Is he a human being? How do we think of him?

Guest: The Bible says God is near to us. As a matter of fact, I’m reminded of a scripture He draws near to those with a broken heart and contrite spirit. So even when we’re going through our lowest of times, it’s when God draws near to us and He comforts us and He gives us the Bible says peace that surpasses all understanding. So God is a God who is near to his people.
