PENSACOLA, Fla. ( WKRG ) — While many of Florida Power and Light’s Pensacola team members stayed put to keep an eye on the storm locally, their partners and team members around the state are working in some of the hardest-hit areas.

After staging at the Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds last week, crews are now hard at work bringing relief to communities devastated by hurricane Helene.

So far, Florida Power and Light said they’ve restored power to more than 680,000 costumers impacted by the storm.

However, parts of heavily hit areas like Manatee and Sarasota counties’ barrier islands remain in the dark.

“We know for those that are still without power just how tough it is, so we want them to know that we are working around the clock and will continue to work around the clock to get their lights back on and help those communities start coming back to normal,” Florida Power and Light spokesperson Sarah Gatewood said.

The restoration team includes 11,000 people from 23 states as far away as Colorado.

As the hurricane season continues, Florida Power and Light is encouraging people to stay alert and ready in the event of a storm.
