    Santa Rosa County to hold event for residents to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste

    SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. ( WKRG ) — Some Northwest Florida residents can soon dispose of items not accepted during traditional garbage pickup as Santa Rosa County hosts Household Hazardous Waste Amnesty Day.

    According to a county press release, HHW Amnesty Day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to noon at the South Santa Rosa Service Center at 5841 Gulf Breeze Parkway.

    EVENT LOCATION:

    “This event allows residents to dispose of HHW at no charge without having to drive to the Central Landfill in Milton,” the release explained.

    The following items will be accepted during the event:

    • Up to eight regular car or truck tires (no large, heavy-duty, or racing tires will be accepted during the event)
    • Up to five gallons of antifreeze, gasoline, paint, solvents, and oil (including cooking oil)
    • Oil filters
    • Lubricants
    • Pesticides and fertilizers
    • Pool chemicals and household cleaners
    • Battery backups, rechargeable batteries (from vehicles, lawnmowers, laptops, cellphones, coin cells. No alkaline batteries will be accepted at the event)
    • Propane bottles
    • Aerosol cans
    • Flat-screen monitors and flat-screen TVs
    • Computers, laptops, tablets, and cell phones
    • Stereos, radios, and amplifiers
    • Printers, copiers, fax machines, and circuit boards
    • Power tools and extension cords
    • DVD/DVR players
    • Remotes and gaming systems
    • Up to 20 fluorescent lightbulbs
    • Fire extinguishers
    • Approved sharps containers (those who bring a full sharps container for proper disposal will receive a free replacement container at the event)

    Those who miss the upcoming event can still dispose of hazardous waste at the Central Landfill in Milton at 6337 Da Lisa Road, according to officials.
