Zaxby’s Player of the Week: Taijh Overton, Williamson DB

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Six weeks in the high school football season, Williamson boasts the state’s top defense in Class 5A. Lions senior defensive back Taijh Overton is a big part of the team’s defensive success.

Last Friday against Murphy, Overton posted 12 tackles, a defensive touchdown and a blocked field goal which led to another Williamson score. The Lions beat the Panthers 47-0 to stay undefeated in 2024.

Taijh Overton’s incredible performance has earned him our Zaxby’s Player of the Week honor!

“He’s a four year starter and knew he was going to be a ballplayer. He’s currently committed to Arkansas. He makes all the calls. He’s basically the general back there,” said Lions head coach Antonio Coleman. “His nickname is ‘Hammertime,’ so you want to know where he is if you’re facing the Williamson Lions.”

“We spend a lot of time preparing for the game. Coach put me in the right position to make great plays,” said Overton. “Shoutout to my teammates for executing and helping me get into position during the game.”

Williamson will play Faith Academy on Thursday, October 3rd at Ladd-Peebles Stadium as the Lions look to remain undefeated.
