MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Health officials say getting outdoors has many health benefits, and a local spot has plenty of options for getting outdoors and learning about the environment.

That spot is the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center.

Mark Wetzel and Kori Wilbourn with the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center and South Alabama Land Trust talked with News 5’s Shamonee Baker and Bill Riales about the center and the upcoming 20th Annual Alabama Coastal Bird Fest and Nature Expo .

“I think 5 Rivers is kind of a well-kept secret,” Wetzel said. “We’re open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we are absolutely free. We’ve got a 4,000 square foot exhibit hall, a learning center, and 81 acres worth of trails.”

Wetzel recommended that people check out the center as the South Alabama Land Trust hosts the upcoming Alabama Coastal Bird Fest and Nature Expo. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 5 and will feature face painting and other activities.
