MOBILE, Ala. ( Gulf Coast CW ) — Try your luck in the Destin Fishing Rodeo, listen to some great music at the Hound Dog Music Festival, or spend some extra time with your pet at the Paws For A Cause Pet Walk! All of this plus more make for an exciting 5 Things to Do This Weekend for Oct. 4-6, 2024!

Here’s what you could enjoy this weekend:

    1. The 76th Annual Destin Fishing Rodeo is underway! It began Tuesday and will run until the end of this month. This celebrated tradition proves Destin is “The Luckiest Fishing Village” in the world! More than 35,000 anglers from all over the United States will compete in more than 200 categories on Harbor Boulevard in Destin.

    2. Celebrate Baldwin County’s agricultural heritage at ‘Olde Time Days’ this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Enjoy a tribute to the county’s rich farming heritage; the event coincides with National Farmer’s Day later this month. The tribute will include historical displays, vendors, educational talks, and other family fun at Bicentennial Park in Stockton.

    3. If you love festivals, music, and helping abandoned animals, you need to be in Silverhill this weekend for the Hounddog Music Fest ! Animal lovers look forward to this event, which benefits the Baldwin Humane Society, every year. Four bands, food trucks, and you can take your whole family — yes, that includes your dogs! It is happening Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.!

    4. The 7th Annual Gulf Coast Challenge is this weekend! The Jackson State Tigers will take on the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile at 4 p.m. Saturday. Gameday festivities will begin with the Gulf Coast Challenge parade at 10 a.m. at Warren and Congress Street.

    5. In Pensacola, there will be a pet-friendly walk on Saturday. It’s called “ Paws for a Cause ,” and that’s because it raises awareness of animal cruelty used as a tool by abusers to keep control in abusive relationships. The walk will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Government Street. There will be fun and games for the pups, and there will be a pet costume contest with prizes.
