    Mobile Fire-Rescue seeks donations for ‘Fill the Boot’ drive benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association

    MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Firefighters worldwide have raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 70 years.

    Mobile Fire-Rescue Capt. Jimmy Connick joined News 5’s Cherish Lombard on Thursday’s Red Couch as the ‘Fill the Boot’ drive kicked off.

    Locally, firefighters will stand post at different intersections across Mobile, looking to collect money for MDA.

    That money can be used in various ways, such as medical and scientific advances. Since 2015, it has aided the development of more than 20 new FDA-approved treatments.

    Here is the collection schedule:

    • Friday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
      • Dauphin Street and Springdale Boulevard
      • Government Street and Broad Street
      • Airport Boulevard and Schillinger Road (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
    • Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
      • Government Street and Broad Street
    Mobile Urban Forestry team to trim hazardous trees — what to know

    The drive ends on Saturday, and the International Association of Fire Fighters aims to collect $2 million.
