MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Mobile Fire-Rescue and other search and rescue task force members left around 1 p.m., Tuesday to provide resources and aid for communities in the path of Hurricane Milton .

56 team members from across the state of Alabama will be traveling to Live Oak, Florida, located between Tallahassee and Jacksonville.

Joining MFRD and Alabama Task Force 1 are personnel from Saraland, Fort Payne, Guntersville, Madison, and Marshall. All teams made last-minute preparations at the City of Mobile Western Administrative Building parking lot, before deploying.

This past weekend, AL-TF1 members came back to Mobile after their deployment from North Carolina.

MFRD Captain Berry Glisson said that several members who were just deployed for Hurricane Helene, are also helping out for Florida relief.

“Shifting gears from the North Carolina deployment, we do have some of the personnel on this deployment that were on that deployment as well,” said Capt. Glisson. “So, we were able to provide some resources to them this morning, now we’re ready to shift gears and help the Florida residents.”

Glisson said that the team has trained and prepared for all the different types of rescues they will be doing while in Live Oak.

“Everybody is very anxious to get down there and provide the help and glad to be able to support the state of Florida and their residents from Alabama here,” Glisson said.

The teams will be initially set up for water rescue missions, to conduct wide-area searches. As well as being on standby in case of a collapsed building.

“Some of those situations that we’re planning on is definitely flooding, surge-type of issues there with the surge from the storm,” Glisson said. “But also, there could be people trapped, cut off in buildings, things that they’re not able to get out or evacuate.”

“Then we’ll have to go around, and we’ll do is check to make sure there’s nobody trapped with floodwaters or, you know, medical needs,” he continued.

All teams will be deployed in Florida for 10 days.

They will be staging in Live Oak upon arrival but will possibly move locations to wherever help is needed.
