DAPHNE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — People on the Eastern Shore looking to get rid of unwanted documents and papers went to Tractor Supply in Daphne Friday morning for a Community Shred Day hosted by the Better Business Bureau.

Cars lined up as early as 7:15 a.m. Friday morning bringing in documents to get shredded in a safe way.

“It’s just important to make sure that your identity is safe and you don’t throw credit card offers or anything with your personal information into the garbage at your house,” Monde Donaldson of the Better Business Bureau said.

Over 300 people brought documents that might have personal information that they didn’t want falling into the wrong hands.

“You’ve got to protect your identity, that is why we do this,” Donaldson said.

Monde told WKRG that around 7,000 pounds of paper was shredded and recycled at the event Friday morning.

The Better Business Bureau is planning another community shred day for next spring in Mobile County.
