Man charged with murder in Bay Minette shooting

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) — One man is dead and another is behind bars after a shooting death in Bay Minette. According to a news release from Bay Minette Police , officers responded to a shooting on East Banyan Street at about 8 Saturday night.

When they arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to North Baldwin Hospital and later died. Police arrested 37-year-old Dwight Pettway. He was charged with murder.

Police say the shooting stemmed from an argument between Pettway and the victim at a small gathering on Banyan Street. The name of the man who died has not been released.

Pettway is no stranger to law enforcement in Baldwin County. Jail records indicate he’s been booked into the Baldwin County jail more than a dozen times since 2007. Pettway is being held without bond until a bond hearing this week.
