Double homicide investigation underway in Hornbeck

HORNBECK, La. ( WNTZ ) — The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) is investigating the deaths of two women following a welfare check on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Deputies responded to a residence in the Highway 392 area of Hornbeck at approximately 2:34 p.m. after receiving a request to check on the occupants.

Upon arrival, deputies were unable to get a response at the door. After making entry into the home, they discovered the bodies of Ruth Holt, 86, and her daughter, Fredda Pierce, 64, inside the residence.

Detectives processed the scene and determined that the two women were the victims of a double homicide. The VPSO has launched an investigation and is urging anyone with information to come forward.

VPSO Crimestoppers is offering a substantial reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the crime. Anyone with information is asked to contact VPSO at 337-238-1311. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and a code number will be assigned for reference.

The investigation is ongoing.
