Tuesday marked the end of an era for many in Baldwin County who grew up going to the market.

“I grew up about 4 miles south of here,” said Karl Parker, a Robertsdale Local. “We shopped here all our life.”

Parker told News 5 that the items he purchased from Tuesday’s auction he plans to use for a business he will open soon. He told WKRG he plans to continue on the memories of the market in his own business.

Items like jelly, kitchen equipment, heaters and tables were up for grabs at the former market. News 5 was told a few of the jelly’s sold for a few hundred dollars a jar.

Tuesday, the auction lasted from 8 a.m 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday is when those who purchased items will be able to collect them.

The owners will still be in the business industry, but no longer in retail. The building that once was a farmer market, will soon become a Wawa convenience store.
