ROBERTSDALE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — All month we’ve been celebrating Hispanic Heritage, students at Robertsdale High School have been preparing for weeks to share a bit of their culture.

Brunilda Vega Campos, a Spanish teacher at Robertsdale High School, has always dreamed of sharing her love for her Hispanic culture with both her students and community.

“If we can all get together and learn and share, I think that’s going to be the most beautiful thing that can happen,” Campos said.

Nearly 40 students have been rehearsing for over six weeks for the school’s fourth annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.

This is the first year the performance is open to the entire school to watch. Campos said she is expecting over 300 students at the celebration on Friday.

“Well the Hispanic community is growing, it’s growing very fast,” Campos said. “Hopefully this will help people to see our culture and maybe they will want to learn more about our culture.”

Through cultural dances, music, food and other Hispanic traditions, Campos hopes it builds community and understanding between students of different backgrounds.

“Once they get to learn more about the culture or why this family does this or why these countries are doing this, they may have a better understanding,” Campos said.
