SPANISH FORT, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Spanish Fort Fire Rescue responded to a house fire less than a mile from city hall around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

The home belonged to Fairhope police officer Drake Rollins. He told News 5 the keys to the police truck in front of his home, burned in the fire, so the truck was stuck there overnight.

Rollins was able to get his wife, Brittney Rollins, and their 3-year-old son out safely. When WKRG arrived at the scene of what was left of their home, the family was looking for their pet dog that didn’t escape with them.

Neighbors told News 5 the family was new to the neighborhood, and their home was newly renovated. They also said the fire was silent. Many living in surrounding homes had no idea the took place until fire trucks arrived.

“No we didn’t hear anything,” Laura Tapia, a neighbor of the Rollins’ family, said. “I just saw the light. It was scary.”

The family set up a GoFundMe, which has already surpassed its $10,000 goal.

The Fairhope Police Department plans on putting something together to help the Rollins family get back on their feet.

The family has lost everything but is grateful Rollins noticed the fire when he did.
