Derrick Dearman’s final moments: Visitors and final meal

UPDATE: Dearman was pronounced dead following his scheduled execution. His time of death was reported as 6:14 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

ATMORE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Atmore death row inmate Derrick Dearman , who killed five people in August 2016, is scheduled for execution tonight, and News 5 is learning more about his last moments.

The Alabama Department of Corrections shared Dearman’s activities before his scheduled execution on Thursday, Oct. 17, in a news release.

Dearman’s activities included the following on Wednesday, Oct. 16, according to the release:

• He was visited by his father, sister, and spiritual adviser, the Rev. Jeff Hood
• He accepted a breakfast meal and an extra tray that included grits, two biscuits, apple jelly, eggs, brown gravy, and raspberry tea
• He ate a cheeseburger and drank a Dr. Pepper as a snack.
• He refused his lunch meal
• He accepted a dinner meal of chicken, cabbage, cornbread, and peas
• He called his sister, a friend, his spiritual adviser, and his father.

On the day of his execution, Thursday, Oct. 17, Dearman’s activities included the following:

• He was visited by a friend, his father, two of his sons, his brother-in-law, and his sister.
• He has not made any phone calls
• He was observed eating/drinking a Dr. Pepper, a sub sandwich, and a strawberry Sunkist
• He accepted a breakfast of oatmeal, eggs, three biscuits, orange juice, and brown gravy
• He accepted a lunch of macaroni salad, cornbread, corn, potatoes, green beans, carrots, and sloppy joe
• His final meal was a seafood platter brought in by “a local restaurant”

Dearman has five witnesses who are scheduled to be there for his execution tonight.
