MOBILE, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Mobile’s 62nd Annual Greek Fest kicked off on Thursday at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

The festival has happened every year since 1962 and has become one of the most popular events of the Fall.

It was originally formed by a group of parishioners as Greek Night, later becoming the four-day festival that is held today.

The event features tons of Greek food options like Loukoumades, a fluffy fried-dough pastry and family friendly vendors.

WKRG had the opportunity to meet Nick Tsounis, who is a member of the church. Tsounis told News 5 he has been making his grandmother’s Loukoumades recipes for over 40 years.

“Flour, sugar, water, yeast, drop them in oil,” Tsounis said. “Slather them with honey and powdered sugar and delicious.”

Tsounis will be selling Loukoumades through Sunday.

There is also a blood drive at the event’s entrance.

Blood donors will receive a Greek Fest shirt and the famous Greek dish, Baklava, while supplies last. Platelets and double donors will also receive a $40 eGift Card.

The event is cashless so remember to bring debit and credit cards.

Greek Fest ends Sunday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m.
