NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) —Metro Council voted on a resolution to approve $80,000 for the Jefferson Street Sound Museum. The museum helps preserve the musical history of Nashville’s iconic Jefferson Street.

Curator Lorenzo Washington and Museum Vice President Karen Coffee opened the museum in 2011. Since then, their dream of preserving Jefferson Street’s legacy hasn’t wavered, but grown through the years.

“It was the Black Wall Street, the original Music Row,” Coffee said. “Any A-List entertainer that people know internationally, they cut their teeth here.”

Tina Turner , Nat King Cole, Jimi Hendrix and so many other legends played in nightclubs that were once on Jefferson Street.

According to Washington, the two have personally funded the museum. This money will help with operational costs and provide them relief.

Drawing people to experience the museum, learn about the music industry and using the space for community events is a goal that both Washington and Coffee strive to achieve.
