This is not a significant severe risk, but combining with increased humidity and moisture, an approaching cold front, and warm/unstable air, a few strong storms are possible. The primary risk is gusty winds, but heavy rain, hail are possible. The tornado risk is extremely low at this time.

FORECAST: Middle Tennessee & Southern Kentucky Weather

    Storm timing and the heat

For Thursday, very little storms are expected until after 4 p.m. Therefore, expect hot and humid conditions. Today, dew points rise into the upper 60s to lower/middle 70s. That makes today very humid with highs in the 90s. The Heat Index or “Feels Like” temperatures should be 100° or above. The rest of Middle TN and south KY should see those values in the 90s.

A Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 AM to 9 PM for Benton, Carroll, Decatur, and Henry counties.

By late Thursday night through early Friday morning, the latest HRRR (High-Resolution Rapid Refresh) model shows potential strong storms pushing southward across the area. This timing could be earlier or later than depicted by this particular model. After a temporary break during the day with temps heating up to near 90°, more strong storms are anticipated during the afternoon hours.

A break in the rain Friday evening, but more could occur overnight and on Saturday during the day. Latest model trends has the rain temporarily ending by the early evening, and currently trending dry for the Tennessee Titans second pre-season game versus the Seattle Seahawks. More storms could push in overnight into Sunday morning. This will be accompanied with a cold front to lower the rain chance and bring slightly less humid air to our region into next week.
