A few strong storms tonight; less heat ahead

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Slight Risk (level 2 out of 5) has been issued for areas generally from Nashville and I-65 eastward. A Marginal Risk (category 1 of 5) is in effect elsewhere.

After a scorching afternoon when Nashville reached 99° for a high, we will be tracking some storms dropping southeast out of Kentucky this evening.

Not all areas will get a storm, but those that do could have gusty, damaging winds and hail.

With increased humidity and moisture, an approaching cold front, and warm/unstable air, a few strong storms are possible. The primary risk is gusty winds, but heavy rain, hail are possible. The tornado risk is extremely low for parts of southern Kentucky east of I-65.

Storms should be out of our area after midnight.

Within heavier storms, rain amounts could reach over one inch. On average through Sunday, rain amounts under half an inch for most areas.

By Sunday, the front should push through the area with morning showers pushing into our eastern counties during the day, with temperatures should dropping into the 80s for highs and 60s for lows as we head towards the next workweek.
