NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Even though it’s been in effect for just a month, a statewide diaper program has eased the financial burden for some Middle Tennessee families.

Tennessee’s free diaper program went into effect at the start of August. Families enrolled in TennCare or CoverKids healthcare can receive up to 100 free diapers monthly for children until the children reach the age of two.

On Wednesday, Pruitt’s Discount Pharmacy in East Nashville hosted a diaper giveaway to celebrate the program with Governor Bill Lee in attendance.

“Diapers are something that every family needs when they have a child and they’re incredibly expensive,” Lee said.

To get the free diapers, eligible recipients can walk into any participating pharmacy and show their child’s TennCare or social security card.

The program is one that has already helped Nashville resident Natasha Johnson provide for her eight children.

“Free diapers — having diapers — is wonderful. I’m a single mom,” Johnson said. “Right now, I’m not currently working, so free diapers come in handy.”

Johnson attended the giveaway with her 11-month-old baby, Antionette. She told News 2 that, with inflation, buying baby products could get expensive.

“There’s some women out here that can’t provide diapers for their baby every month and stuff like that,” Johnson added. “So this really helps out a whole lot.”

Buy your own frickin' diapers. Don't have kids if you can't afford them.
