CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A school bus for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) pulled over Friday after a student reported to the bus driver that another student had a gun in their backpack.

CMCSS public information officer Anthony Johnson told News 2 that the driver immediately called Dispatch, which alerted 911. School administrators were also contacted to report the bus’ location. The bus driver pulled over and took possession of the backpack.

“There are laws regarding the searching of students’ backpacks,” Johnson said. “When law enforcement and administration arrived, they investigated the report and searched the backpack. There was no weapon.”

After interviews were conducted, it was determined that the accused student showed a picture of a gun to another student on their phone. That image made the student who reported the threat feel like there could have been a weapon in the bag.

Johnson said that student safety is a top priority for the school system, adding that CMCSS and law enforcement take every report and threat seriously.
