NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Get ready to show your four-legged friend some extra love! On Monday, Aug. 26, furry companions will get their recognition on National Dog Day.

To celebrate the day, Camp Bow Wow — a national doggy daycare chain — ranked the top dog breeds in Tennessee based on campers that entered their care this year.

The daycare’s list includes a range of purebreds, mixed-breed and popular crossbreed dogs like doodles.

According to Camp Bow Wow, the top five most popular dog breeds in Tennessee are:

    1. Labrador Retriever
    2. Goldendoodle
    3. Australian Shepherd
    4. German Shepherd
    5. Pit Bull Terrier

The doggy daycare noted that the biggest difference between large and small breeds is lifespan. Small dogs typically have longer lifespan of 12 to 15 years, while large dogs have an average lifespan of 8 to 12 years.

“A dog’s breed can influence certain characteristics, but it shouldn’t be the sole factor in choosing which furry friend to add to the family,” said Erin Askeland, Camp Bow Wow Animal Health and Behavioral Expert. “Every dog is unique — some small dogs have high energy and bold personalities, while some large dogs have a laid-back demeanor. At Camp Bow Wow, we celebrate all breeds and believe that every dog deserves a loving home where they can enjoy playtime, social activities and enrichment. It’s the individual personality of each dog that truly makes them special.”

Officials say an estimated 50 millions dogs have visited Camp Bow Wow locations since the nationwide chain first opened in 2000.
