All students are reported to be safe and deputies responded to the school to secure the area.

According to the Putnam County School System, a ninth grade student stood up in the middle of class around 9:40 a.m. stating, “I have a gun in my backpack.” School officials said a hard lockdown was issued after the teacher pushed the classroom’s panic button, which alerted administration and SRO deputies of the incident.

The student was not in possession of a gun, officials confirmed Tuesday. However, he was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with threat of mass violence on a school property and is being held in Putnam County Sheriff’s Office Juvenile Detention Facility.
