Metro police reported 32-year-old Shondarrius Cook was driving a Toyota Camry eastbound at a high rate of speed on I-40 where I-24 East and I-40 East merge.

According to a press release, Cook came up on another vehicle and attempted to change lanes but due to his speed, lost control of the car. The Camry crashed through a metal guard rail on the left side of the Interstate and rolled, landing upside down on the left shoulder of I-40 West.

After the crash, Cook, got out of the car and ran across all four lanes of the interstate before jumping from the bridge over Hermitage Avenue onto a small ledge. He then jumped from the ledge onto the sidewalk along Hermitage Avenue.

The interstates reopened to traffic around 8 a.m. No additional information was immediately released.
