NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Hillsboro High School was placed on lockdown Friday morning after a loaded weapon was found on school grounds, officials announced.

The student was reportedly located, brought into the office, and searched. During the search, a firearm was found in the student’s bag, officials said.

A spokesperson for the school district said the student — only identified as a 14-year-old freshman — and firearm were both taken into custody by the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

Based on a preliminary investigation, authorities said there is no indication that the student was going to use the weapon on campus. He allegedly told officers that he had taken the gun from a drawer at home.
