    Man mauled to death by dogs in California, 1 arrested

    OAKLAND, Calif. ( KRON ) — A person was attacked by dogs and mauled to death in California last weekend, police said.

    The Oakland Police Department said officers were alerted about a “canine attack” around noon on Sunday, Sept. 1.

    When police arrived at the scene, they said they found the victim suffering from several dog bites. The victim never made it to a hospital and was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

    The victim was a 53-year-old man, East Bay Times reported .

    The vicious dogs’ owner, identified by prosecutors as Brendan Thomas Burke, appeared in court on Thursday, Sept. 5. The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson said Burke is charged with felony failure to control an animal killing a human.

    A judge allowed Burke to remain out of custody on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to return to Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland on Thursday, Sept. 12 for a plea hearing.
