Metro police identified the victim as Romayne Soiseth, 73, of Turlock, California.

Officers were told Soiseth had been traveling as a passenger in a vehicle for approximately 14 hours from California. Soiseth reportedly told the driver he was feeling claustrophobic while they were in stop-and-go traffic on the interstate and got out of the vehicle, according to a release.

The driver said he attempted to get Soiseth to return to the vehicle before Soiseth jumped over the center concrete barrier and ran into the southbound lanes of I-65.

Soiseth was hit by a southbound Ford Focus driven by a 23-year-old Nashville man. The driver remained at the scene and no charges are expected to be filed.
