NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) is introducing potential parking changes to the metered areas of Nashville.

According to NDOT, the proposal is phase two of the department’s “Smart Parking” roll-out, extending metered parking from a three-hour limit to up to 10 hours.

This also comes with a rate change for both the Central Parking District, which is enforced 24/7, and Non-Central Parking District, which is enforced from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m.

In the Central Parking District, the hourly rate would decrease from $2.25 for the first two hours to $2 flat, increasing for the third, fourth and following hours.

So, if you’re parked for all 10 hours, you will pay a total of $50 under the new rate change.

In the non-central parking district, hourly rates are increased with the 10-hour rate reaching a total of $34.

“We know that this parking money is coming back to us,” said District 19 Metro Councilman Jacob Kupin. “It’s not just going to line the pockets of some parking company which some folks have expressed concern over, it’s going to help our city and our infrastructure.”
