NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A police helicopter pursuit led to the arrest of a 19-year-old in connection with multiple stolen vehicles Tuesday.

Documents from the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reported officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on Jason Washington in relation to a stolen vehicle when he attempted to flee.

MNPD said officers were near the 200 block of North 8th Street on Tuesday afternoon surveilling a stolen 2019 white Infiniti Q50, which was parked nearby.

Detectives said they saw Jason Washington get into a blue Infiniti Q50 and drive away from the area.

At the same time, officers saw the lights of the stolen white Infiniti turn on, as if someone had used its key fob nearby. The timing of the lights flashing as Washington drove away led officers to follow him to see if he was connected to the car, according to court documents.

Officers followed him until they had an MNPD helicopter overhead, at which point they attempted to perform a traffic stop on the blue Infiniti.

Metro police reported Washington attempted to evade the traffic stop and was followed by the helicopter.

The car was eventually stopped near Petway Avenue and McFerrin Avenue after police used spike strips to burst the vehicle’s tires. Washington reportedly exited the vehicle and ran away.

The helicopter followed Washington down the street until he was stopped by officers on Chicamauga Avenue.

While searching Washington, officers found he had 3.5 grams of marijuana in his pocket, officials said.

Officers ran the vehicle identification number of the blue Infiniti and found it was also reported stolen. When they searched the car, they found seven oxycodone hydrochloride pills and several key fobs, according to documents.

Washington was also found to be driving without a license. He is being held in Metro jail on a $39,000 bond.
