NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman was arrested for reportedly waving a gun in response to a Wednesday afternoon fight involving her daughter on a bus carrying Nashville high schoolers.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, McGavock High School students got into a fight, during which one of them pepper sprayed others on the bus. As a result, the bus driver pulled over at Lisa Lane and Lebanon Pike.

While medics were treating a student for pepper spray exposure, authorities said 36-year-old Angela Sweeney arrived at the scene and tried to get on the bus. However, the driver prevented the mother from doing so.

Officials said Sweeney “was apparently upset that her daughter had been pepper sprayed.” The woman allegedly went to her car, grabbed a handgun, and started to wave it around, but she didn’t point it at anyone before she drove off.

Police said they stopped Sweeney on Lebanon Pike and took her into custody without incident. Officers also recovered the handgun.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Sweeney is being held in the Downtown Detention Center on a $75,000 bond for felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Besides the pepper spray exposure, nobody was injured over the course of the incident on Wednesday, Sept. 11, authorities reported.
