    Teen shot during fight near downtown Nashville

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 13-year-old girl was shot in the back during a fight south of downtown Nashville Thursday night.

    Officers responded to a call on University Court just after 7 p.m.

    Metro police reported there was a fight during which a 20-year-old Steven Harvey opened fire and struck the girl in the back. Investigators believe Harvey and another man were involved in the fight, during which other people joined in.

    The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she was rushed into surgery for life-threatening injuries.

    Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the area and determined Harvey walked to a nearby apartment. Harvey was interviewed and said he did not intend to shoot the victim, according to court documents.

    Harvey was booked into the Metro jail and charged with attempted criminal homicide. His bond was set at $125,000.

    It's so sad how young people don't think about their own actions. It seems that they think it's funny when they get in groups to disrespectful, angry, and bitter words and physically assault others. I'm sending prayers and praying that she will get well soon and pray that the others grow up and stop all this unnecessary, energy-wasting behavior. They need to grow up fast, pay attention to life, and understand the world around them. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😢
