COFFEE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 74-year-old man has died after he drowned in Normandy Lake while participating in a fishing tournament Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) said crews were called to the lake just before 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 to respond to reports about a possible drowning.

Officials said a preliminary investigation indicates that 74-year-old William Henry, of Murfreesboro, was participating in a fishing tournament on Normandy Lake, but never returned to the weigh-in.

According to the TWRA, this led several anglers to search for Henry, where he was then found unresponsive in the water near his boat.

Henry was reported dead at the scene by Coffee County first responders, officials said. He was wearing a life jacket.
