Metro police reported the “riot/disorderly crowd” incident involved reckless driving, shots fired, burning items and bottles were thrown at officers and police cruisers. Officers also responded to a crash involving two vehicles at a shopping center nearby where one person was injured.

Vehicles participated in a “takeover” of the intersection with tire tracks burned into the roadway.

The crowd, who was reportedly celebrating Mexican Independence Day, prompted a massive response by Metro police but no officers were injured.

Damage and debris were left behind in the parking lot at the intersection of Elysian Fields Boulevard and Nolensville Pike.

A neighbor told News 2 this was not the first time the area has dealt with disorderly crowds.

“It was calm at the beginning, all nice, everyone driving up and own the road, I don’t know what happened after that, I left around 8:30… now that I see what actually happened, it’s really upsetting to see this mess,” explained Pablo Castorena.

Castorena then picked up the trash littered across the parking lot.

Officers continued to monitor the area as the investigation continued.

No additional information was immediately released.
